Professor Ravi Kanbur has been appointed as Chair of the WIDER Board

Ravi Kanbur Appointed Chair of the Board of United Nations University World Institute for Development Economics Research (WIDER).
He succeeds Professor Ernest Aryeetey, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana, who served as Chair during 2009-2015.

Professor John Abowd will lead Census Bureau research and methodology

ILR Professor John M. Abowd will join the U.S. Census Bureau as associate director for research and methodology and as chief scientist, Census Bureau Director John H. Thompson announced today.

The appointment is effective June 1.

Abowd will lead research centers devoted to domains of investigation important to the future of social and economic statistics, and will lead key capacities for innovation across all statistical programs, according to the agency.

The Research and Methodology Directorate, the Census Bureau department Abowd is slated to lead through May 2019, includes the Center for Adaptive Design, Center for Administrative Records Research and Applications, Center for Disclosure Avoidance Research, Center for Economic Studies, Center for Statistical Research and Methodology, Center for Survey Measurement and the new Center for Big Data Research and Applications.
